For some immigrants, the United States is more than just a land of opportunity. It represents freedom from persecution. At the law office of Mark E. Jacobs, P.C. in Dallas, Texas, we help clients in the important and sometimes life-saving process of applying for asylum.
Clients have come to me after fleeing their countries based on a political situation. Others are persecuted because of their race, religion, nationality, or membership in a social group. Many illegal aliens who have been caught in the country or at the border and have been arrested will request a filing for asylum. These cases present challenges and eligibility for asylum is not guaranteed. An experienced immigration lawyer can help you escape the persecution you face in your home country.
Upon meeting with you at the law office of Mark E. Jacobs, P.C., we will discuss your eligibility for asylum and file an affirmative asylum application with the appropriate asylum office to appear before an administrative judge. If removal proceedings have started, your asylum application would be determined by an immigration judge.
Asylum and Refugee Status
If your application is granted, there is an additional benefit to asylum status or refugee status. You are able to file applications for your spouse and children to join you in the United States. After one year in asylum status, you are eligible for lawful permanent residence.
